Why?
Because how do you know you can't do it by exercising and "eating healthy" for the rest of your life?
Believe it or don't....
we share this planet with a few hardy souls who actually can "change their lifestyle" and stick with it by willpower alone. And I'm talking about regular people, not fitness freaks.
I have one in my house.
My mother was fat forever. I think she was born fat. When she was 17, in the heat of battle, her brother called her "a big fat b----" (rhymes with witch), and that very day, she went to the doctor and started on a diet. She never went off it. Today, at 75, she weighs less than she did in first grade. But you have to understand, she also stopped smoking cold turkey. First try. And when she was diagnosed with a chronic form of leukemia 18 years ago and I physically dragged her to a doctor I'd heard about who put her on the strictest vegetarian diet known to man (poor thing dearly loved her meat), she went out and ate a Colossal HippoBurger or some such monstrosity....
then she quit.
She gave up all things animal.
Just like that.
Fifteen years of the ugliest deprivation you can possibly imagine, and she has never strayed.... not even once. (I tell you, the woman isn't normal.)
But what if you're one of those people?
Okay, so you probably aren't.... but just what if?
I think you owe it to yourself to give it a try. (And I also think you owe it to yourself to finish reading this book, because I'm going to give you some dandy ideas to help you with whatever changes you decide to make.)

If you've lost a bunch of weight and it's still gone, then why would you want to change anything?
Read this book, and put some of the techniques to work to help you keep the weight off.... but if you lost your weight by eating plants and you can see yourself doing that for all eternity, then keep right on munching what you're munching. (I would rather be pecked to death by a duck, but that's just me.)
If you have a medical condition that requires you to follow a special diet.

But.... (a really big "BUT" coming).... if your condition is a direct result of being FAT, like certain types of high blood pressure or diabetes.... (in other words, if you're already knee-deep in doo-doo because of your weight)....
and you know you have to do something drastic, but you can't face a lifetime of deprivation so you keep right on eating.... (and eating)....

And in case you were wondering....
being tired 24 hours a day, waking up in the morning feeling like you've been hit by a commuter train, griping constantly about sore feet and creaky knees, gasping for air each time you complete the grueling climb into your car, and being constantly amazed that buns can cramp like that just from sitting on them....
that's not "unhealthy."
That's "fat."
It goes with the territory. (I didn't believe a word of it either.... until I got rid of the first 50 pounds.)

Actually, if you've only failed once you're the perfect specimen, because you haven't ravaged your metabolism yet.

Don't let this scare you off. A few of the realities I'll be asking you to face are downright yikky (like the ones about why you're fat).... but a lot of them just have to do with revising the way you look at weight loss. Not so horrible when you consider the alternatives (sudden death, for instance).

If you can "adopt a healthy lifestyle" and you have a will of iron and know you can stick with it FOREVER.... then by all means, do it.
(Ummm.... if you know all that stuff, why haven't you done it before now? That's not a bad question to ponder before you start another "real" diet and go down with yet another sinking ship.)
But if "the right way" just ain't workin'....
