I am not an M.D., a Ph.D., or an R.N.

I am not a registered dietitian or an unregistered dietitian or any kind of dietitian.

I am not a shrink. 

I am not a personal trainer (in fact, an hour on the rowing machine would probably kill me). 

I have never worked for a Medical Weight Loss Clinic or for Jenny Craig.

I have never even held tickets to The Richard Simmons Show (but if I had to pick, he'd get my vote for World's Cutest Fitness Nut).

What I am is a FORMERLY FAT™ (and still slightly pudgy) person who has figured out how to get the fat off and keep it off once and for all....

  • WITHOUT depriving myself,
  • WITHOUT working up a sweat,
  • WITHOUT much in the way of willpower, and
  • WITHOUT adopting the dreaded "healthy lifestyle" that sucks the fun
    right out of living.
So that's who I am.

Now we'll talk about FORMERLY FAT™.



Because the success of the FORMERLY FAT™ system is based on REALITY.... (in fact, this book was originally going to be called "Reality Bites").... from here on out there is no such thing as "plump" or "heavy" or "overweight." There is not even "obese."

There is only FAT.

No offense intended, but mincing words isn't going to help anyone (and before you get huffy, remember that we're all card-carrying members of the same minority group).

What you will read in this book is totally unconventional. 

Like no "diet plan" that's gone before.

But it works. 

And while it is NOT based on the latest scientific research and sound nutritional principles, it IS based on one undisputed truth:

  • You are better off thin than fat.
And it is based on one piece of trivia that causes dieters everywhere to clamp their fat little hands over their ears in the universally-recognized "If I Can't Hear It It Can't Hurt Me" stance:

  • Yo-yo'ing will kill you.
(That last one, by the way, IS based on the latest scientific research.  The up-and-down routine is one of the worst things you can do to your body, no matter how many broccolis you manage to choke down.)

So....

if you're one of the very few who can "adopt a healthy lifestyle" and get thin and stay thin.... (which means sticking with your new "healthy lifestyle" until the day you die a healthy death).... more power to you. 

By all means, do it.

But if you aren't....

or if you think you are but you've tried and tried and for some mysterious reason you're still fat....

then maybe it's time to stop focusing on the elusive "healthy lifestyle" and start focusing on getting the fat off, because....

  • Thin is better than fat.
  • Improved health will follow whether you want it to or not.
I dare anyone to argue those points.

But don't take my word for it.

Talk to your doctor.

Tell your doctor that you plan to lose weight and keep it off. 

Hear your doctor go, "Tsk tsk tsk" (or if he was absent the day they taught bedside manner, hear your doctor laugh). 

Pretend to pay attention while your doctor explains (again) what a healthy lifestyle must include. 

Then say, "I have one question for you.  Am I better off thin or fat?"

What do you suppose the answer will be....

FAT???

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Not likely.

So this is the part where you hold your head high and waddle on out with all the dignity you can muster.  Then you go straight home and create your OWN success strategy.... a totally painless one that you really CAN live with for the rest of your life.

And a few months down the road.... well, let's just say your doctor won't be tsk-tsk-tsk'ing anymore.



So this is it.

The day you stop and think about where you stand on the issue of weight loss.

How much do you value your life?

How much does your family value your life?

How much extra time do you have to play around with this before you suffer some serious side effects?  (I don't mean wheezing when you climb three stairs; I mean the big ones, like a heart attack or some pesky form of cancer that just loves to fester in organs that are packaged in fat.)

If your mind is made up and you prefer to keep "trying to eat healthy" rather than admit that you're hopelessly tangled in the yo-yo string....

if you have the rest of your life to "try" and you aren't afraid of dying young....

if "weight loss" will always mean "green leafy stuff" and you insist on eating it 'til you'd sooner jump off a cliff than go eyeball-to-eyeball with another head of lettuce so to save yourself from the rocks below you binge on three pounds of chocolate-covered caramels....

then I suggest you close up this book and fix yourself a nice bowl of sprouts.

But if you're ready to face reality and start getting the weight off NOW....

for the very LAST time....

and if you're strong enough to be different and to ignore the masses when they say, "Hey, you can't have that on a diet!"....

then read on.
